SUGI 27: SAS(r) Implementation of Nonparametric Smoothing and Lack-of-Fit Based on Smoothers
نویسندگان
چکیده
A user-friendly program in SAS r is proposed to perform many nonparametric smoothing and testing procedures. The nonparametric part of the program consists of resources already available on SAS and the testing part will consist of lack-of-fit tests based on smoothing ideas that will be continuously updated. Four main procedures are described for the testing part of the program: tests of a linear model based on a ratio of quadratic forms and on probability bands, the “order selection” test of fit of a linear model, and a test of fit of a nonlinear regression model. The user-friendly characteristic of this program requires basic knowledge of the SAS System using the SAS Macro language as the base for implementation with modules SAS/STAT r , SAS/IML r , and SAS/GRAPH r .

SUGI 28: Smoothing with SAS(r) PROC MIXED
Mixed models are an extension of regression models that allows for incorporation of random effects. The application of mixed-effects models to practical data analysis has greatly expanded with consequent development of theory and computer software. It also turns out that mixed models are closely related to smoothing. Nonparametric regression models, especially the general smoothing spline model...
متن کاملTesting Lack-of-fit of Parametric Regression Models Using Nonparametric Regression Techniques
Data-driven lack-of-fit tests are derived for parametric regression models using fit comparison statistics that are based on nonparametric linear smoothers. The tests are applicable to settings where the usual bandwidth/smoothing parameter asymptotics apply to the null model, which includes testing for nonlinear models and some linear models. Large sample distribution theory is established for ...
متن کاملFitting Generalized Additive Models with the GAM Procedure in SAS 9 . 2
Generalized additive models are useful in finding predictor-response relationships in many kinds of data without using a specific model. They combine the ability to explore many nonparametric relationships simultaneously with the distributional flexibility of generalized linear models. The approach often brings to light nonlinear dependency structures in your data. This paper discusses an examp...
متن کاملLocal Linear Smoothers in Regression Function Estimation
A method based on local linear approximation is used to estimate the mean regression function. The proposed local linear smoother has several advantages in comparison with other linear smoothers. Motivated by this fact, we follow this approach to estimate more general functions, among which, conditional median and conditional quantile functions. A further generalization involves the estimation ...
متن کاملThe Smoothing Hypothesis, Stock Returns and Risk in Brazil
Income smoothing is defined as the deliberate normalization of income in order to reach a desired trend. If the smoothing causes more information to be reflected in the stock price, it is likely to improve the allocation of resources and can be a critical factor in investment decisions. This study aims to build metrics to determine the degree of smoothing in Brazilian public companies, to class...
